“I am severely deaf and am a hearing aid and a Roger Inspiro radio aid user. I love sports, especially cricket and football. I was determined not to let my deafness get in the way! I first started playing cricket at my local club. I enjoyed it so much that after a year I went to the Girls’ Winter Training Programme for Berkshire. Here it was much better as Neville, my coach, wore ‘Roger’ and ensured I knew what was happening.  I was recognised for the EPP (Emerging Players Programme) and later moved on to play for Berkshire County. On the field of play my team use hand signals to instruct me when to ‘walk in’, move ‘to the left /right’ or be ‘in on the one’.

I was also selected for Berks & Bucks Deaf football talent pathway when I was 12. Now I am playing Regionals football in Brighton, training for 2 hours on a Saturday morning. The next step is the England elite squad before, hopefully, moving on to the 1st team Deaf squad. I feel lucky to be able to participate in mainstream and deaf sports.

My message is:

“Don’t let anyone or anything stand in your way. Believe in yourself.”
